1. in pot, heat olive oil over medium heat until shimmering

  2. add onion, bell pepper, carrots, and salt and cook for 10 mins until tender and brown

  3. add garlic, chili, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, and oregano and cook until garlic cooks

  4. add tomatoes and juices, rinsed beans, and broth and heat to a simmer

  5. stir and simmer for 30 mins

  6. remove from heat and blend 1 ½ cups for thickness (optional)

  7. add cilantro and vinegar or lime juice and salt
