Beat margarine and ½ cup brown sugar.
Add almond extract and 1 cup sifted flour.
Mix and pat into greased 9x13 cake pan.
Bake at 375°F for 12 minutes.
Break eggs into a bowl; beat slightly.
Add salt, vanilla, coconut, chopped nuts, ½ cup sifted flour, 2 cups packed brown sugar, candied red cherries.
Spread on the first mix and bake for 20 minutes.
Cut into squares.
Notes:
Any nut works! Cashews, walnuts, or pecans are good options.
If candied cherries are not available, try boiling down maraschino cherries as an alternate.
